Just my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OPINION. I here a lot of talk on fencing. Is electric better? Is chicken wire better? Every case has its limitations and the has alot to do with what is better for your case. For me dogs. My chickens free range. I have ospray, eagles,fox,cyoates,barn owls,snakes...just to name a couple. And my dog keeps it all at bay. So if your case allows you to have a dog or already do. I suggest getting him used to the flock. Let him know they are off limits. Reward him for barking at the fence for no reason (probably smells something you cant) and it will pay off. My rooster even sleeps in the tree by the house at night sometimes because he gets so high up I cant even get him with the water hose.

Not to mention, you have lots of ground cover for them. My area is wide open no trees. Just a few bushes that I planted.
I don't have a fence in my yard at all. So, my birds are in the run until I am out there or close by in the yard working.

Can never be too careful - everything wants to ambush chickens.
