I'm wondering if you all are seeing raccoons being more relentless this spring in attacking your coops/runs and gardens?
Over the last weekend, I planted my garden and had begun putting up fence to keep out rabbits, never thinking raccoons would pull up plants. Planted the garden Saturday, had pulled out tomatoes and the flowers out of my planter, been up on my deck as well digging in the dirt on Sunday. They also got into my run which had a Nestera coop with attached run inside of the big girls run. I had my 6-7 week olds in the Nestera with the run gate locked and additional lock added. The Nestera had a wire buried underground and I'd used it last summer with no issues. I can only believe that they reached through the wire and grabbed the babies It didn't appear that they'd gotten into the run. One baby was left dead and the others were nowhere to be found other than their feathers. Now I am looking at an electric fence and am redoing the run with additional hardware cloth on both sides of the frame underground as well as covering pallets that I'm going to use for the lower walls. I've been told to get a Great Pyraneas dog but they have to be in a fenced in yard or they will wander. I live in the country next to a timber. I'm so disheartened and scared for my big girls. I won't let them out of the coop until I get the run rebuilt. Please pray for me and my girls.
