Predator question

I am going to get hardware cloth. This is how the pens were advertised and had good reviews for protection. I let my guard down and it’s my fault. Any advice for the ground? I’ll put the hardware cloth along the side.
For around the bottom make a skirt with hardware cloth [this can be expensive but one time and done and you'll not have this again.} But attach the hardware cloth to the bottom of your pen and come out at least 1-2' on the ground so you don't have diggers who can get inside. Place heavy rock or gravel etc on top to keep it flat and so nothing can get under it.
People will advertise just about anything and make it sounds awesome but then we learn with heart break. When we see chicken wire of course we're going to think this stuff is made to keep poultry safe. But it won't it only keeps them inside nothing out. As you start on getting your pen secure please post back and show what all you've done and if you need help we're here for you! :hugs I can imagine the heart ache your feeling.

Not funny. I am devastated. They were pets.
As already stated, we have all experienced the loss of pets and loved ones before.
Your anger is misdirected; I have done nothing to harm your pets.
See how my information indicates Western Washington?

If I had posted "Help, my duckling is convulsing" a cogent response might be 'you're not using slug bait in your yard, are you? ' whereas if I was in Eastern Washington someone might respond, 'Did your duck get bit by a rattlesnake? '

West of the mountains we have black bears, mountain lions, coyotes, raccoons and too many raptors to list.
Know your area, know your predators and learn how to protect your livestock.
If you're not keen on firearms, you might want to take up archery.

Thank you. Very much appreciated.

I have had problems with mink before , they kill anything that moves and had killed eighteen of my birds in one winter night. The birds did not have this type of wound. We got rid of the mink as it was still in the coop when we discovered the attack. This looks like a dog attack. Mink won't open a gate. They will dig a hole to access your birds. You might be dealing with a neighborhood dog that is attacking your birds for sport. I would definitely reinforce your pens and provide a place where your birds can be safely housed that is predictor proof. So sorry for you loss.

A lot of people are missing the point!

1) Nobody is trying to be cruel.

2) If you build a weak coop, your birds will be vulnerable.

3) Predators vary by area, so help others help you by indicating your geographical location. Location is also helpful for relocations, pen types, other parasites, etc, etc.

4) Death is certain, levity is optional. ☯
