Predators and pest

Went to gather eggs this morning and the golf balls i had in nest boxes were gone. Girls were acting funny. I didn't see anything but I cleaned coop anyway. It's 29 degrees here. What could have taken golf balls? It's to cold for snakes . And no signs of anything getting in coop. Golf balls won't fix though wire of coop and wire is buried 12 inches in ground all the way around coop.

Did they get buried in the nesting material or kicked out of the nest and buried in the bedding?

That's what i thought but I cleaned the whole coop and run. Changed all bedding and materials.

Some one else reported that If it is in the same area maybe someone is pulling pranks on the chickens or a very stupid snake
