preforming "egg" surgery...UPDATE: it was suffocated by blood vessel.

oh right...hmm weird. i didnt think about that. could it havew been the membrane itself? maybe it poked through and twisted it around himself?? im not sure just a thought

it was dead by the time I got it out of the shell. When I got it out of the egg, It's neck looks kinda funny and bulged out a little, The blood vessel was wrapped really tight around it's neck and foot. That's probably why it didn't pip... It's apparently been like that for a while because it's neck seemed to grow around the vessel..

Perhaps the umbilical was wrapped around it? It connects the chick to the vessels in the membrane that help the egg breathe by exchanging oxygen through the shell. An active chick could possibly get itself wrapped in the umbilical, just like some human babies.

It was very skinny and red, It looked an awful lot like a blood vessel, But I don't know what their umbilical cord looks like though.

The umbilical does have blood vessels in it, so it would likely be red. I've only seen the shed results from healthy chicks that are left behind in the spent shell, not what ones still attached to a dead chick look like. Did it connect to the chick's navel?

I didn't notice, but it was around it's foot too so it could have been connected to it's stomach
