Pregnant with chickens...

it never stopped me i am the sole care taker of all my animals. i was always barefoot and prego in the backyard feeding the chickens. also had to clean coop before winter 40 weeks prego. was over due. i was nesting and trying to go into labor. lol it never worked still needed drugs to be induce my labor. shoveling and all. just wash your hand before you eat like always.

ps just wanted to addd i went to hospital on a monday to be induced. was home with baby and me thursday afternoon. i wasn't home but a few hours and was out feeding chickens. my sister feed them why i was gone. i also breastfed and pumped for 10 months. by daughter got her first pair of poop kickers at 14 months and of coarse they were pink. her first trip to the chicken coop was a special day.

I will be very careful with the 50 pound bags if grain. I have 3 horses, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and chicks on the way (from a hatchery). My doctor has already given me lifting restrictions of 25-30 pounds because I have been carrying around the bags of feed and bales of hay up until last weekend. Can't wait for the chicks to arrive, the brooder is set up and I am working on getting the temperature just right.

I think maybe the question should is what kind of precautions should a pregnant person take.

They should probably be the same as a person with a compromised immune system.

Salmonella is a concern. Same with any pet bird.
Not a big concern, but still.
Good hand washing takes care of most problems, clean coop and common sense most of rest.
In everything a little knowledge can go a long way.
