I have a barred rock that's about 20 weeks old. Half an hour ago I noticed she was all by herself looking sick. She seems lethargic and is making little whimpering noises. She wouldn't eat any treats when offered, but she is drinking by herself. I felt her abdomen for an egg and I'm pretty sure I felt one, but I'm not too certain if I was doing it right. I didn't see her squat or anything. I have yet to check her vent, but I'll do it after I post.

I'm worried because this hen doesn't look like she has the redder comb and wattle of a hen ready to lay. This is my first ever flock and I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to keep checking in on her and update this thread.

Update: I went back and she seemed a bit more alert. I had to chase her down to check her vent. It didn't seem like it was puffy or emitting anything. It was pulsing a little bit, but I'm not sure if it's any different from a normal vent.

I quarantined her just in case. She's up in front with Dad. He thinks she's just cold and that some time in the sun will warm her up, but I'm not so sure.

EDIT: She also did the breeding squat when I reached out to grab her.

EDIT 2: She's exploring around where dad is, and doesn't look so lethargic. He says he saw her standing on one leg a couple times. She still won't eat, but she seems to be perkier.

EDIT 3: Not sure if I mentioned, but none of my hens have laid yet. So maybe this is her first egg? Maybe I'm overreacting.
