Prepping for a Necropsy: What do I need and what to look at?

I was told he was acting normal.
Disclaimer: I am a complete novice when it comes to necropsies!

First thing I do is look at overall body condition. If thin, probably something chronic. I check for obvious things like fluid in the belly, discolored organs, distended intestines, worms in the intestines, blood in the intestines, worm or pus in the trachea, foreign bodies in the crop, esophagus, proventriculus, and gizzard.

That is what I do.
I plan to cut open a lot of things to look in just about everything.
Forgot to mention that he lost weight.
