People are so removed from where their food comes from
They complain about the price and have no idea how much work is involved
Yeah, I know. It's sad to me that people eat meat and don't even relate it to an animal at all. They think it grows in styrofoam. Honestly, I'd rather do all the work than be a removed citizen that's clueless.

It makes zero sense to me how people can eat meat, but not do the work themselves at least once. I know not everyone has the capability to have backyard chickens, but it's something all should experience.

When I go hunting, I will process every animal we get.

I processed several extra roosters and a turkey last year myself. Wasnt as bad as I thought it would be altho getting set up was a PITA.
Couple weeks ago I had 7 processed for me. I took them to be done instead of doing it myself because it was really cold here and I had a duck processed and didnt want to mess with plucking it. The price was very reasonable.
Congratulations on your first processing experience. It does make you feel a sense of accomplishment being able to provide for your family.

I'm doing ducks next, honestly I'm thinking of just skinning them too. I'll marinate them first for a day before I cook them. My family doesn't like the skin of anything so I guess it makes my life easier.

My husband is still talking about how I processed them all myself. He even showed off pics to his co-workers and even they're impressed.

Think he's even more excited to eat them. I told him Thursday I'll cook the biggest one since that's actually one I created and hatched.

The ducks I'll be hatching too. I have a duck flock, bantam chicken flock, and a standard chicken flock. I can get fertile eggs any time I want.

I wanted to do turkeys but I'm not sure anymore. I am thinking about quail though, I just have to make the cages first.

Im hatching quail this week. Have to put the 1/2 hardware clothe on the brooders so the little fluffybutts dont commit quail suicide.

I had come in to check the incubator and found the turner had come dislodged. I freaked for a minute and got it back on its track but was afraid it damaged some eggs. Thankfully not.
I have 26 Jumbo Cortunix in. I tried candeling them but couldnt really see anything. Should start hatching this week.
