Pressure treated wood in run

[My Very First 6 Chickens]

Hello chicken friends, quick question. I want to use 1 single piece of pressure treated wood in my run as a 'leg' for a corner shelf i am making. Its a leftover post from a porch project. Your opinion matters. I think its fine but hubby says its too dangerous. Thanks!

It won't be a danger as long as it's intact. It's when the pressure treated wood is cut and produces saw dust that it becomes a hazard. As long as the sawing is done away from the chickens so that can't ingest any of the sawdust, they will be quite safe.

I personally would never use anything, but pressure treated lumber for any wood that is going to be in direct contact to the ground or exposed to the elements. I have used it many times for chicken builds and right as I type this there is a whole pile of it stacked in the barn where the chickens also are that's been sitting there for a year+.

I used to avoid it. After replacing (and replacing and replacing and replacing ) boards that were rotting, I only use pressure treated.

Modern pressure-treated wood is not the CCA stuff that was suspected of serious potential toxicity. It's a different and safer (though less long-lasting), formula.
