Help!
I have a lovely Barnvelder Hen who developed a problem yesterday in this heat wave we are having.
An egg broke inside her yesterday, and today I was able to remove the majority, except for maybe a sand sized particle.
Her crop was a little distended.
I have her on nystatin for the crop, and really want to treat preventatively with antibiotics.
I gave her 150 mg of clindamycin today, and she appears fairly well and eating, if a little bit sluggish.
I need to know the best antibiotic for this potential condition: sepsis.
Google is about worthless with contradictory info.
Some say Amoxicillin (I have it - but a previous vet said it was dangerous)
Some say the tetracycline derivatives which may be better for gram negatives in the gut.
I can get them at the feed store.
I used clindamycin, because they have tolerated it well for past maladies, but they were not like this!
She is around 2.5kg, so any advice on antibiotics and dosing would be much appreciated.
