Prices of birds...aka stealing from 4H members

Kids are a whole different story when it comes to buying birds.I have given away some very good birds over the years to kids.Alot of the times I have seen them later and the birds were either dead or given away.It just seems that the kids that pay a little something for the birds appreciate them and take alot better care of them.

I gave away a very nice rooster I had for sale at a show to a young 4H girl that I know, making sure that she OKed it with her mom. I know and like them. She immediately turned around and gave it to her friend. This made me angry--it was a gift to her, and turning around and immediately giving it to someone else was very inappropriate--if that girl really wanted it, she could have paid me. But mostly it was the principle of it--if I give someone a Christmas gift, I do not expect that they will immediately give it to someone else.

Kids learn by doing, and haggling is a part of it, although I do think there is a difference between haggling with a shy 8 year old and a determined 15 year old. Although sometimes it is the determined 8 year old and the shy 15.

If you dont want to haggle put that in the add! just say the price is firm no offers please. Me personally I haggle alot this past weekend I bought some Duck decoys that would of been 300 dollars new for 25 bucks the guy was asking 30 but I offered 20 and he said 25 so did I steal from him? heck no not in my opinion ive tried to sell my old mustang body for 300 bucks a guy came and offered me 225 we agreed on that did he steal from me? heck no I could of said no! Haggleing is just part of the game. just my .02
