Privett hatchery birds.

@deepbluesea Where did your marans come from? Does she lay pretty dark eggs?

@Ralph Suniga did you see my above posts I tagged you in? I had a couple questions if you don't mind answering them. TIA!
My marans was actually a cull from a breeder because she had a wry tail and her feet feathering was sparse. I bought a whole flock (of five different kinds), coop and all from a family that was moving because the husband was being deployed. It was a great way to get into chickens because they were experienced and gave me the whole set up. :)

Oh and yes, her eggs were a gorgeous dark brown!

I am from Texas and have dealt with Murry and Privetts but I have found that it is better on the chicks if you dont have to travel far to get to you Murry mac murry is in Missouri and Privetts is in new mexico Ideal is here in Texas and pertty much have chicks year around if you look at some of the hatcheries you will see that you can order a specific amount of birds but they will not ship till early or late march when it may be cold and they are shipped by air which puts a chill on them. not good when you have to buy a cretin number of chicks with Ideal if you only buy 25 bucks of chicks and it has to go far they will put in some heavy breed cocks for extra warmth and will be free as told to me by Ideal

Thank you for the info!

I bought some Penedesenca chicks from Privett and they have been laying very well, and much darker eggs than I expected from hatchery stock. I get 4 to 7 eggs a day from 7 pullets. They were straight run (I wanted males to make a breeding flock) and I only lost 1 chick during what turned out to be a bad year for chick mortality among many other breeds. In the past I also bought California Greys from Privett and I recommend them, for at least those breeds.

Thank you. That's very helpful info!

This thread is lil old, but I ordered Light Brahmas from them in 2014 I believe, and 2 of those hens i ordered won Best Asiatic and Reserve Of Show at my county fair that next year. So my only experience with them was a pretty phenomenal one. :D

I still check occasionally for replies, so thank you for this. I am actually still debating this decision so your input is greatly appreciated! And yes, that was a phenomenal experience. I hope if I decide to go with them that mine will be half as good!
