Privett hatchery birds.

You're welcome again. I was wracking my brain trying to remember what breeds lay pink eggs. It's been a number of years since I got pink eggs, about four, I believe. That was the last time my one surviving Light Brahma, ten-year old Lady Di, laid an egg.

I started a thread asking about pink eggs a while back and brahma was one of the most commonly mentioned as a pink layer along with austroolope and sussex so I was really excited that I already had a brahma. She's a really great chicken all around too. Docile, pretty, very quiet. I've really enjoyed my brahma girl.

Privett hatchery was up the road from me when I leaved in NM they where out of Portalas NM and I lived in Clovis NM and yes I got Tired of Ordering from Murrys Hatchery as I saw first hand as the birds I go 20 of them in a 35 X 15 Coop as well as a run took off to trying to peck each other up so a friend and i tried privett and found we could get the birds at the hatchery there we were pleased with this birds but when we saw the handling of these hatch lings we decided to stay with murry

know where are you from have you tried Ideal from Texas you are only required to buy 25 dollars of birds to ship them to you

Oh no! I really hate to hear that. Are they just rough with them or what? I'm in Louisiana and was considering them mainly bc a feed store about an hour away carries privett birds all year & can get just about any bird on their list in quantities as low as one. And privett has a pretty big selection and has everything that my daughters & I want to add to our flock. I have to wonder if all hatcheries aren't rough with their chicks compared to individual keepers. Not that I'm justifying it at all but I am curious if this isn't commonplace among them since they handle such large numbers of birds.

And every time I look at ideal and most other hatcheries for that matter it seems like they are out of st least one of the breeds I want. I'm only adding a few birds (like 6) and it'll be one each of several different breeds. I have a small mixed flock just for fun. Those small quantities complicates things sometimes. @Ralph Suniga

@Ralph Suniga i just checked out Murray McMurray and may actually go with them instead. I like that they let you order way in advance as I don't want to get chicks until the spring but would love to go ahead and save my order. So if the breeds I listed in my original post do you have my of those (in particular EE-Ameraucana, langshan, welsummer, marans) from Murray? I'd love to hear your experience with those specifics breeds from there if you've got any of them.

I haven't gotten chicks from Murray McMurray or Privetts, but I have BC Marans and an EE. My experience (which is limited) is that my EE is the spookiest of my birds. She'll hang out on the deck with everyone but does NOT want me touching her. My Marans was the exact opposite--almost always wanted to be on my lap or the other chair while I was out there reading in the evening. They both laid like champs--almost daily with a short break in Dec/Jan. Love 'em!

Oh, also, my gold-laced wyandotte lays smallish pink eggs. Not right now b/c she's in a hard molt, but I'll take pix once she starts back up.

@deepbluesea Where did your marans come from? Does she lay pretty dark eggs?

@Ralph Suniga did you see my above posts I tagged you in? I had a couple questions if you don't mind answering them. TIA!
