Privett Hatchery

I purchased 6 Polish Top Hat Pullets from Coastal Farm and Home Supply and half of them ended up being roosters. I complained and they ignored me.
I then purchased 6 straight run Indian Runner Ducklings and all 6 ended up being males!!!
In contacting Coastal Farm again and they offered me replacements for all of the birds and again ordered them from Privett Hatchery in New Mexico.
On 8/13/12 I had family pick up the 6 Female Indian Runner ducklings and 7 straight run Polish Top Hats special ordered just for us.

Two of the ducklings don't stand up like runner ducks do. One of the "Polish" chicks has feathered legs and 5 toes and another is totally black with no top knot.
I contacted Coastal Farm again and they have ignored me.
I contacted Privett via email and they quickly responded and requested photos of the birds, which I sent. Privett confirmed that the 2 ducklings are probably Pekins, not Runners. The feathered legged chick is a Sultan and the black chick is likely a Crevecoeor. They did not offer an explanation as to why I got so many incorrect birds in this one, small order!

Privett told me to contact Coastal Farm to see if they wish to replace the birds. Coastal has continued to ignore me.
It is the end of their chick season and I do not want any more replacement birds, as I have ended up with enough of Privetts left overs!

I am betting the 2 wrong chicks are males dumped on us by Privett so they didnt have to get rid of them. We will have to wait and see what sex everyone turns out to be but they claim they do not sex the Polish. Odd, because the sign clearly said "Polish Pullets" when I bought them, so I was charged extra for female only birds and the hatchery claims they do not sex the birds?! If this is true Coastal lied about the sex and knowingly overcharged for pullets!?

The ducklings heads were all painted red to mark them as females so I am hoping they are indeed females but if not I will be screaming fraud! If more then 50% of the "Polish" are males I will be screaming bloody murder!

I wanted 6 Runner ducklings of various sexes and 6 Polish hens. Instead I have ended up with:
6 adult male runner ducks,
2 pekin ducklings (females?)
4 runner ducklings (that are suppose to be females)
3 adult Polish Roosters
3 Polish hens
1 Sultan chick (of unknown sex)
1 Crevecoeor chick (of unknown sex)
5 Polish chicks (of unknown sex)

That ads up to 13 extra birds I have had to raise, feed and care for, over and above the 12 I originally purchased.
I won't be buying from Coastal or Privett again because they both screwed up and have cost us a lot of extra time and money$$!!

I know a guy who is related to privett, so I decided to buy from them. Anyway, I put my order in on Friday the 31st. I got a call the same afternoon. They are out the the gold sex links I want, so I was out on a list. It will probably be the end of the month. I am ordering, 6 americanus or EE's, 44 gold sex links, and 5 pearl guineas.

before I placed this order, I was checking prices and accidentally pal Ed an order. I thought the total price was going to come up. Anyway, she called and sid her name was Kelly from privett, and was really nice and canceled it. The next call I got from Kelly also for my real order. I have also called and asked a question and they were nice and helpful.

So so far they have been nice on the phone. I will see later and update once I get my chicks, most likely at the end of the month.

privett is more for large like truck load shipments. They are not use to people wanting 5 of this and 7 of this. They I think really prefer large buyers. Maybe they have worked on their customer service??

UPDATE: Everyone is growing up just fine. The ducklings we thought were not Indian Runner Ducks, are not Pekin's either they are looking like Privett's "Buff Ducks" whatever that is? I moved all the ducklings to the main chicken run last night, they joined the other runner ducks as if they had always been together. I heard one deep quack come from the crate while I moved them last night, all the others have much higher voices. I hope they all turn out to be girls like they are suppose to!!

Of the original 7 Polish, where 2 ended up definitely not being Polish, 5 appear to be as follows 3-Silver Laced Polish, 1-Buff Polish and 1- Golden Laced Polish and 3 of those 5 are looking very much like males. Nothing is confirmed until they get a little bigger. I will try to update again when we can be sure of the sex and breed of everyone!

I don't care if they are used to dealing with large orders or small, they take small orders and they should get those orders correct! The occasional mistake is understandable but this many of the wrong birds feels more like they were dumping their extra mixed birds on anyone who ordered or purchased birds at Coastal from the Privett Hatchery...... I have been advertising to sell some of the male runner ducks and put a little blurb in our ad about our trouble with Coastal Farm where we bought the Privett birds and we got a call from a woman who just wanted to talk about the fact that SHE TOO bought ducks and chickens from Coastal Farms that were suppose to be straight run and everyone of them were males!! This is clearly a pattern of fraud or bait and switch, I just do not know who is responsible for violating the law and screwing over customers, Coastal Farm or Privett? Coastal appeared to want to make it right by replacing our birds but if we could see they sent the wrong breeds, Coastal should have been able to see that too!

I have ordered from privett for years now. They dont have wonderful stock but if you want chickens just for pets or eggs its pretty good. But yesterday i had a problem with them. I had ordered 25 assorted standard cochins COD. and they called me the day they was to be shipped out and told me they was on the way with nothing together i told them to cancel it. thankful they did. They could have atleast warned me of a date they would be shipped and not inform me the day they was being shipped. Very bad customer service if you ask me.

I own a feed store and was referred to Privett via one of my customers. Their prices were well below average and since I resell them I was more than happy about that! I had fine luck with them until one of my regular customers order Sebrights and all but one died. I understand chicks die. I ordered him more and they refused to send them, saying that they were not having any luck with the hatchings. I was supposed to receive an order of the Sebrights this coming Thursday but they have taken them off of my order and given me a credit instead...they didn't even ask or talk to me about this. The most frustrating thing is that yesterday morning I received a call from the post office saying that I had chickens in! I was not expecting more birds until Thursday and Friday NEXT week. I picked them up, and after arguing with the manager as well as the sales consultant I realized that they had me down for *360* birds that I NEVER ordered including the 102 that came in the mail, and 50 cornish cross that will arrive tomorrow. It totals just over $1000.00. The worst part is that they take the money for the chicks out of your bank account the day they ship them. We will see if I am reimbursed!! NOT A FAN OF PRIVETT-GOOD PRICES SHOULD NOT EQUAL CRAPPY SERVICE.
