Does anyone have a case for the rooster? My neighbor recently had to get rid of hers & I am super-sad. I so prefer the soft, campy crow to the growly motorcycle or yippie dogs barking. I'm considering pursuing it. I just started my chicken journey with three Easter Egger chicks & It would be nice to have the option of a rooster..... They're gorgeous! I am in Melbourne now & a code enforcement lady came out to pass & write a permit for my coop the other day. Our city allows only hens. I paid someone to build me an attractive one so it was all good. Anyway, LMK if anyone has any pro-rooster info.

Tell me about it! I have to listen to my neighbor's dogs bark at all hours of the day, but I can't have a rooster which I'd much rather hear! In spite of it's increased popularity in the past several years, I think there's still a widespread belief that chicken-keeping is a lower-class activity which is why there is more bias against them. I wound up with one in spite of my best efforts to get only girls and now I have to get rid of him before he starts to crow!

Since you currently do not have a roo, and miss the one your neigbor used to have, you are in a unique position for presenting a petition to your city counsil.

I live in a town near you that does not allow chickens at all. I have a big white fence so what they don't know won't hurt them...I have 8 chickens...tried real hard to get all girls but 2 turned out to be roosters. They are about 12 or 13 weeks so I am looking for a home for them before they alert everyone that I have them.
I am really enjoying the chickens...so much fun. I also have a neighbor with 2 dogs that bark...all the time...blech!

Today my next door neighbor left his house at 6:15 on his loud, growly motorcycle. Why do people think that's okay, but they're not okay with roosters? Honestly.

I will look into petitioning the city. Thanks for the suggestion! We are loving our small flock of hopefully all hens!
