So Reaper, my now half disabled chicken is now also half blind. Her foot sticks out more and it’s paralyzed and she won’t open her eye either, both on the right side. Any ideas? I’ve tried my old dogs eye drops and helping her open it but neither work(word of advice… NEVER name a chicken ghost or Reaper, both short for peppers but both are apparently bad luck on the chicken)View attachment 3328878View attachment 3328881

Have you tried using any human vitamin B complex for her leg issue? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? Some of her symptoms, the curled under toes, the paralyzed leg, and closed eye could be associated with Mareks. Could she have suffered an injury? Is she able to eat and drink with her issues? Are you feeding her several times a day?

I don’t think she’s been vaccinated, I started her the remedy I gave her last time that worked. Her toes aren’t curled, her leg just sticks out and she can’t move her foot, she is rather clumsy but I waited it out to heal but it’s been over a month and so far no progress other then her adjusting to it. She eats and drinks just fine, I moved her inside since she can’t get to the water bowl and feeder easily and the water bowl is too tall for her on one leg, and it’s getting too cold for a disabled silkie but she eats her oats and drinks her water with no issues whatsoever, I have a pillow wrapped in bags for her to lay on since the bedding hasn’t been enough for her

Oats are not very good for chickens. Chicken feed is much better, and you can wet some and make a mash if she likes moist food.

If you should lose her one day, your state vet could test for Mareks, since that is common in chickens who are lame.

You might consider making her a chicken sling and place food and water in front of her. It can keep her clean and get her upright to eat. Here are pages of examples, especially post 5, 11, and 12:

She has feed too, her favorite treat is oats, she has no issues eating the feed she just prefers her oats.

I’ve never really done that for my chickens, too much money on something that’s not extremely important, last chicken I had that died from something like this I got cremated

Chick chairs, I’ve tried making one before for ghost but it didn’t work. Carol will most likely be even more uncomfortable in them, she likes moving around and getting in her sand, which I just put in there yesterday, to dust bathe which I think will help kill the lice right?
