Hello chicken people!
One of my buff Orpingtons ( Rooki) started behaving weird around September 15 th, she was making herself look bigger every time she saw me and making noises that sounded to me like the ones male pigeons do and started spending more and more time inside her nest and every time I approached her she made a noise that sounded like " out out" that at first I thought It was funny. Then the day when she wouldn't leave her nest to eat or drink arrived. Then is when I realized she was broody. At first I didn't take it too bad, thinking that it would be something that will pass soon and I started taking her out of her nest to make her drink and eat, but soon after she ate she came back in her nest even when there was no eggs in the nests ( I used to have a fake one I used to train them that was still there and that I took out) So I decided to make a pen for her underneath her coop and keep her there until her sisters (I only have 4 chickens) were done laying her eggs and then close the coop and let her free roam with the rest. But she spent the whole time trying to get into the coop even thou it was closed. She appear to me like she was an angry chicken, and making herself look big and fluffy every time she saw me.
After about 8 days since she started behaving like this she didn't seem to be broody any more and was acting normally. But no eggs. Not a single egg since September 19th. I'm talking about my best layer, she has laid an egg every single day since she started laying in August 10th, in that whole month and a half there were only 3 days that she didn't lay ( I keep count of the eggs and the chickens that lay them because I found fascinating that in a month 4 chickens produced 100 eggs! I was super excited!! Rooki has laid so far 3double yolkier in a month!)
So, as I say, it's been more than 2 weeks since her last egg. I do not know much about chickens yet, specially broody ones and I'm worried about knowing whether or not she will lay again and if she's gonna be my best layer again.
Now one of my other chickens , Phoebe, is starting to show similar behavior, she's making that "pigeon" clocking too. Should I be worried??
What can I do?
Did I do anything wrong???
I love my girls and I want the best for them. 4 chickens is all I can have by now and I don't want to replace any of my girls. ( i will never do!)
Any advice??
Is Rooki going to lay again??
Thank you!
And Colbie Bear and Rooki inside the house one of the times I let her in so she could forget about the nest for a bit
