Not sure where to start...I have 8 laying hens in the city of Manton. There is a new revised ordinance saying that "No person shall keep, harbor, raise or hatch domestic fowl, including chickens and pigeons, in the city." I have had them for over a year now and got a nice little visit from our city police yesterday saying I had to get rid of them and I have a week to do it, or I will get fined. We have a portable coop that we built and we move it all over the yard and garden, which utilizes the manure and keeps smell and bugs to nothing. The eggs we get(any where from 8-15 a day) we use, donate to local food pantry, and sell a few dozen.

How do I go about fighting this and keep my chickens? My husband said if it comes down to it while we fight it, we'll wheel the coop in the garage. All I know is I'm tired of people violating our rights.......

Since you already had the chickens maybe you fall under a grandfather clause. I'm not a lawyer or anything but in our little town if you already had what was voted on then they shoud alow you this clause. Maybe ask about it, it sure wont hurt.
