This is one of those with the screw off top that looks like a handle. I got two of these from a friend the other day for $5. One seems to be working fine. Screwed on the cap, filled the jug with the hose, put the top back on tight, took off the little cap and it filled the drinking area. The other one is just gushing water and draining the whole bucket. Not sure if has an air leak somewhere or what is going on. Any suggestions?

1. If the top is screwed on too tight it can cause leaking. Over tight is bad because it breaks the vacuum seal.

2. If this will not fix the problem then you might need to replace the rubber ring that forms the seal to the top.

I recently purchased one of these type waterers and made the first mistake...I'm learning!

Try lubing the O ring with some petroleum jelly. That will soften it up and should help it seal better. If it still leaks, maybe you have a pinhole somewhere that is breaking the vacuum.

Had the same problem with mine. I put the lid on just to the point where it starts to get tight. Then I take the little black spout cap off so water starts to fill the bowl. Then I tighten the lid until the water filling the bowl starts to "glug, glug, glug" then I know I have a good seal.
