Just curious as to what everyone pays to have their chickens processed? We are getting ours done for 3 bucks a bird, the guy comes to our farm and does everything, including bagging them.

If we take them to a processor, she will charge $5 a bird...includes the bag.

We decided we're doing it ourselves. Should be interesting.

$3.00/bird, vac bagged, for a quanitity of 100 or more. Since we sell retail meats, we take them in batches that large.

It's 50 cents to $1 more per bird for smaller quantities.

The only one in the state that will do small orders is Chaudhry's in Siler City. They don't have a website of their own, but there's a fair amount of info about them here:

And now I see I misquoted the price above - it's $3.00/bird if you do 100 or more at a time. (I'll correct my post.) They also do turkeys...$10/bird, no discounts on quantity.
If you want to use them, you must book in advance, at least 2 weeks....and they only do chickens every other week. They're very friendly, give them a call.

There is another being built in Marion, but I understand from a recent conversation with a state inspector that they won't be open until next year.

We had 10 done today for $3.00 a bird by a place that's only two miles from the house. I called them at 8:00, dropped them off at 10:00 and they were back home and on ice at 11:00. This is our first batch and we were going to give it a try ourselves, but this was just too convenient.

I'm a bit jealous... I'm running into a brick wall trying to find a place in Central Texas. I think $3 a bird sounds completely reasonable... considering how much I would need to invest in equipment to be able to do this and the time involved, etc. Gosh, I'd even be willing to drive a bit... I hope I find a processor... eek!

I charge $4.00 / bird. Partially because I do not like doing other peoples birds.... and secondly... if someone wants to pay it, I will gladly do it. That includes ice and bags.

However it doesn't cost me more than a buck a bird when I do it myself.

How much is the ice when you process yourself? How much do you pay per bag and how much ice do you use for each 100 birds processed?
