Hi. I am a newbie here but I have some questions for in the future. I just got my chicks this week, a mixed batch (straight run) of Bantams. It will be a few months from now before they are ready but I want to know if anyone knows of a poultry processing plant in Northern Illinois. I also read about a traveling one in a chicken book-The Joy of Keeping Chickens. Is this common? Probably won't work for living in the city like I do but I could take them to my friends farm out west of here. What is the average cost?

From what my research has said the only certified processing plant in IL is in Authur Il and its run by the amish. You would be better off doing it yourself

Thanks, you are right that is too far. That's almost 3 hours from here. I heard that there was one out west of me east of Rockford. I have searched the internet and yellow pages up here and can't find a thing. The last time I helped with such a thing I was in High School and helped my dad butcher our ducks. We lived in the country then. Oh and that was 30+ years ago. LOL. I can do this.
