Also, being Cornish cross i suppose they could have died from the stress of transport. How old were they?

Did they show you the dead birds? Did they seem sincerely upset about the loss? How did you find the processor?

No. They didn't show me the dead birds, and they just acted surprised it happened. Threw out some theories that they didn't really didn't think made sense. A friend told me about them...

Yeah.... something doesn't sound right here. Even if the birds dropped dead they were still YOUR dead birds to choose how you wanted them disposed of, know what i mean? They should have shown you the bodies and discussed it with you.
This stinks, very sorry to hear this happened to you.

if they were not used to close quarters, they could have simply died from shock. CX can be pretty delicate toward the end. I would not leave birds that I have grown overnight alive anywhere. get a yard bird chicken plucker and do the whole thing yourself, it's not that big a deal once you get the hang of it, as long as you have a chicken plucker!
