Last Tuesday we came home to find our Leg Horn rooster missing, since we free range we thought a predator of some sort took him although he is a large bird,
This morning we were having coffee on the patio and there he stood beaten, trembling and missing feathers, I picked him up and checked him out there are no open wounds or blood anywhere but his tail feathers and feathers on his right side under his wing are missing, But, he keeps picking at his tail as though it itches.
Question is anything I should be doing to treat him? I already have him separated until he builds up some strength, before reintroduce him to the flock and the new Rooster we got after he went gallivanting..

Sounds as if this guy has had himself an adventure, perhaps tangling with a predator. One time a bear attacked one of my roosters in his coop and ripped out all his tail feathers. It appears sacrificing tail feathers can save a rooster's bacon.

You might want to administer electrolytes to restore his fluid balance and to counter shock. The trembling indicates that could be an issue.

Of course, he's not going to be pleased that you have installed a new young stud in his absence. You might prepare yourself for some fireworks.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions we have the new guy in a large cage/dog kennel in the coop to get the girls used to him before letting him loose, I been thinking I might get another cage and put the Prodial Son in one along side of him to reacilmate him back into the flock... what are your thoughts.
Where can I get those electrolytes does Tractor Supply carry that stuff?

Heck, don't buy electrolytes when you can toss a few ingredients together for your own and get it into the rooster ASAP.

1/2 cup hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon flavored jello (chickens love red "flavors") You could use Kool Aid, too.

Mix those ingredients together, then add 3 1/2 cups cold water then let your roo have it to lap up.

But yes, TSC has electrolyes.

I like nutri drench for stressed chickens..tractor supply....its my go to for everything. U can out triple antibiotic or blue k ote on his boo boos. Another quickie electrolyte recipe >2 cup warm water,2 tbs brown sugar, 1/2teaspoon baking soda, 1/2teaspoon salt.
