Production Black/ California Grey Chicken

I have California Greys that I hatched from eggs so still chicks. My question that I am still unsure about is are they the same as Production Blacks? Many hatcheries list them as the PB/CG is what has me confused. I know hatcheries aren't always correct in their naming ie. EEs being listed as Auracanas.

Thanks. I figured. I just wanted to see it in print un-prefaced by "I think".

That said, my California Grey chicks are the flightiest I've ever had and quick. Looking forward to them growing up.

Hopefully your CG's are of a different source than mine. My CG's had tail feathers that were brittle and constantly being replaced.


If you like quick, consider getting a couple American games. They tend to be extremely pretty, smart and otherwise very tough. If now use them for experiments, some involving flight.

I got mine from... Cedar Creek Hatchery. Where did you get yours? I'm thinking of getting more in Spring from Welp which I believe gets them from Privett. I've hear Privett is one just a couple hatcheries that has California Greys of good type and quality.

I like Cackle. Except I'm not into the Whites. I'm interested in California Greys. I worry a little about keeping white birds.

i got one from Ideal

here she is. i no longer have her. but she was a very good layer of white eggs. and was very friendly. i had a male also but he dissapered. as chicks they lived in an empty fish tank. they always wanted to be held. and as adults they never ran when i went in the pen. they followed me around and let me pick them up. as chick they look like barred rock chicks. black with dots on there heads
