Progress in my homemade incubator updated with **PICS**

1 guinea and 5 BR's have hatched so far this afternoon, all came out with clean, yolk fully absorbed and no problems with the membrane so I guess temps and humidity are good.

At least 4 more eggs have pipped, so probably see a few more this evening.

10:00 and 7 of the 10 BR's have hatched, and only 1 guinea. Several of the guineas have pipped, just waiting on the hatch.

here are a couple more pics just as they hatched.

The 4 remaining guinea eggs have all pipped, the last 3 BR eggs show no progress.

1 of the BR eggs looked like it had stopped developing when I candled on day 18, but the other 2 looked good.

Seems like opinions on opening during hatch vary

I'll leave it closed from here on out, but the chicks where rolling eggs all over the place and turning the pips to the bottom. Maybe next time I'll try the egg carton method.

Here are the ones that have hatched so far, it looks like I've got some different colored guineas

That is already a great hatch percentage. If you are nearer the end of day 22...this is what I do. I pick up the unhatched egg and give it a light tap while holding it up to my ear. Many times you'll hear the chick make some sort of noise...scratching or peeping...that you can't hear unless you hold them up to your ear. You may be able to candle them and see movement, but sometimes they don't move much at this time.

Just moved the last 3 guineas to the brooder, so if you don't count the infertle eggs I thru out a week ago I had 10 BR and 8 guinea eggs in the bator for the last week.

7 out of 10 BR eggs have hatched, don't see any movement or hear anything in the last couple and this is day 22. I'll leave the bator running through the night and check again tomorrow.

8 out of 8 guinea eggs hatched, today is day 27

My hatch rate for these viable eggs was 83%, I'm pretty happy with the outcome of my homemade bator and first time incubating.

Without all the info on this site I don't think I could have done this, so thanks!
