I didn't have much luck with my eggs that had air cell damage from shipping either, upon eggtospy we found full term dead chicks. The air cells had really weird shapes, kinda hard to describe. And of course these were the eggs I really wanted to hatch.

Oh well, all part game....so I'll just move on, and try again. My hubby and I were talking about turning the eggs differently....and maybe that would help the air cell a better chance of correcting itself. But we having really decided on what would be the best method to try this round on shipped eggs.

On a happier note, my own eggs that I incubated with the shipped eggs all hatched.

so we are happy about that.

Bad air cells cause full term dead chicks?? I have so much to learn. I wondered if this could be the problem with our ducklings as we had a number of large and oddly shaped air cells. I told my hubby it was probably damage from shipping that did it (killed the ducklings that is). He thought it was odd they would make it full term or almost before dying...

We noticed that because of the constriction of the weird shape of the membrane, the chicks were in an odd position in the shell, so would have been hard for them to turn and pip in the right place.

I have had some chicks hatch in the past with damaged shells, but none of these for some reason.

I have one colored Sebastopol Goose egg due to hatch on May 25, and it has a very odd air sac. It is on the big side of the egg normal but than it goes down a 1/4 of one side to down almost half way down the egg. I really dont know how to decribe it.It was moving around yesterday. Is there anything I can do to help it ?Should I give up hope? I was really hoping it would hatch its both of my kids bithday on the 25 they are 6 years apart on the same day.

Can I be stupid here for a minute....? How do you know if an air cell is "damaged"
I have a few in the bator that look like the air cell is along both top and side of the eggs. Does this indicate a problem?

Another dumb question... does this air cell fill with water if the humidity is too high? How do chicks "drown" in the eggs?

I know I need to go back to "Hatching 101" class

I had thing happen they all were growing and good but its day 29 and 1's dead and 1's REALLY under developed and only one is almost to a pip. It's really upsetting how horrible people are at the post ofice.
When i picked up my package the mailman had purposly layed it on its side and RIGHT in front of my door. So if i hadnt looked down i wouldent have seen it and probubly broke the eggs entirely.
Cruel people let me tell you...
its really sad i have a 'lone duckie' Poor baby will be alone as it growns up.
Also i was suposed to hatch 4. Three for my aunt and 1 for me. Now it looks like there will only be 3 because i have 2 other ones i got on May 3rd.
I'm keeping this one wether my mom lets me or not
