So I framed and attached the roof. Next will be the siding. My friend suggested painting the inside, is that necessary?

Not necessary but it helps seal the wood to minimize access to mites, and it also makes cleaning easier if you use the gloss exterior paint. I also put linoleum on the plywood floor for the same reason.
 
My roosts are at varied heights, but the highest is 2 feet from the roof so that the girls have head room. The lowest are a foot below the highest.
 
How high would you put the perches

My lower roost in the addition is 3' and high ones at 4' and the 10 week old chicken have no issue getting up to the 4' to roost some go straight there. Others use the 3' then to the 4'
.

Also FWIW our roost is a 2x4 cut at 2.5" wide and remainder is screwed to the bottom and edges rounded like this..............
