Progressive pied is a term for a bird that gets more and more white on it as it ages. From what I have been able to find it might in fact be two separate conditions. The first progressive pied was a bronze bird but it did not breed true when bred to other white mutations it's children also did not produce such "progressive pied" birds. That bird and other bronzes that had the gene pop up died young but some people today have claimed to have kept them alive longer. This possible version of progressive pied can now be found in other colors though again they do not breed true. The other possible "progressive pied" gene does not appear to be a color gene at all but a lethal gene that pops up in cameos, purples, and peaches. It was first observed in Cameos and it likely spread to peaches and purples by breeding the three back and forth. This condition causes the same white feathers to appear but it seems to work much faster than the other and I've heard of it blinding/killing birds that aren't even two yet. The oldest bird I talked to someone about that showed these symptoms died at 8 which is still pretty young for a pea.Can anyone give me information about Progressive Pieds?

I know this is a confusing explanation and I have to say it's based more on what I can piece together from old UPA articles, posts on here, and talking to breeders. I just hope I made it clear that I'm starting to think that "progressive pied" might be two separate conditions as indicated by the fact that the birds that likely inherited it from a cameo, peach or purple tend to die very young after going blind while "bronze progressive pied" owners have said their's have made it past a decade. Either way though I do not support breeding such birds deliberately until we know if it is a lethal gene in both cases or not.
Thank you so much!I was showing Brad Legg a beautiful Peach hen that I had bought and told him how she was a Progressive Pied. I had bought out another breeder of all his stock and she was included. I had sent pics to the late owner and he could not believe how she had changed. I told Brad I had no intention of breeding her and he agreed I shouldn't so I sold her to a taxidermist. Brad explained to me there is no 'Progressive Pied' as they do not start out as Pied. He calls them Progressive White as they are usually solid-colored birds that turn white.View attachment 3113945View attachment 3113947
I'd be very curious to see a necropsy or blood work done on such a bird. It might be able to tell us more about the condition.I was showing Brad Legg a beautiful Peach hen that I had bought and told him how she was a Progressive Pied.
