Ok, I see the issue here.
on my navigation page the line that says: install the app, I don't have

The site in the PWA is the same as the browser version, but it behaves like an app in the task switcher and has an app icon. The previous apps available in the app store / Google Play store were basically just "wrappers" of the browser version of the site anyway, and those had some downsides that the PWA doesn't have (like the old apps ceasing to work properly after software updates), and the addition of push notifications to the forum software also makes it possible for the site to be more "app-like".
