Project criticism - what do you think a project is?

What about under general DQ's? Wouldnt it still just be like 2 points knocked off?

looks like it may be 3 points for color of legs and toes, shape is 5 points

I think alot of people are missing the fact that breeds come in a variety of feather colorings and marking as well as leg/feet/beak/eye color.

It is up to the person developing the variation to set a standard that would then be petitioned to be accepted as a APA standard.

It's like with my Red Orp project. Alot of people ask me why I am not working toward white legs. Not all orps have white legs. Red has the leg color of the BBS orp line he came from. There is no red standard in the US. The UK standard is mahagony feathering and white legs. I am not trying to meet their standard either.

I love Red's blue leaden/slate legs. I love his firely flame feathering. I love the beetle green sheen of his black tail. I am breeding to reproduce him. I am not interested in producing a knock off of someone elses idea of what my version of red orpingtons should like.

If I am able to reproduce him and in the next 10 years he becomes a standard - well how about that!? Wouldn't that be cool?

If not, who cares? He and his off spring are a challenge, a joy and my hobby.

I hope everyone can see we all have something different to bring to the breeding table. We should spend more time supporting these projects instead of tearing down others who have a vision far different than our own.

Good point Miss Prissy, its your project and you can do whatever you want. I think that the reds with slate legs look amazing, the reds with white legs would be cool too but they dont stand out as much as ones with blue legs.

Very well spoken, Miss Prissy. And your Red is indeed beautiful...to duplicate him with a consistent line would surely be an accomplishment.

ETA: It snowed today - rare for our neck of the woods. I hope to get pictures tomorrow.

projects like hinkjc or missprissy,s take hard work and commitment. people like them have been doing this for a long long time. many of the beautiful breeds we enjoy today are direct results of projects like these. i am glad we have folks like them who love their birds and want to share their progress with us! i hope to have some of their birds one day! that would be sooooooo cool!!!!
