Prolapse/egg bound pullet

Update: Barbara seems to be doing fine! She had a very small prolapse Monday night after we’d put her back with the flock. So back in the kennel in the guest room she went. I’d bought Vetricyn, which fixed the prolapse with just a single spritz. My spouse’s aunt checked on Barbara twice a day, and she laid an egg with no prolapse on Wednesday. Thursday we came home briefly from our camping trip to reintroduce her and she’s been fine ever since.

She or one of the other marans laid another enormous egg yesterday. It seems like her laying cycle wasn’t really interrupted - maybe it wasn’t dark enough in the kennel with a towel over it in the guest room with dark curtains?

Overall, she’s doing fine and I’m happy about it. Happy outcome.

:goodpost:Wow, that was very informative! So the Vetrycin just made the prolapse suck right back up no problem? That’s great, thank you for sharing this! Oh, and I am pretty sure that Barbra is a barred rock not a Wyandotte, you can look up pics on google! I am so glad she is doing better, I had a hen with prolapse and I waited way to long to treat it. By the time I knew what to do, the tissue was crusty and brown and she passed, so I love reading success stories so I can be prepared in the future! So glad she made it!:yesss:

Me too!

I’m not sure if it was the cold temperature of the Vetricyn or because it was a very small prolapse, but it was immediately effective. Very grateful.

Barbara is a cuckoo Marans. I also have Wyandottes who started laying first. And some Easter eggers, barred rocks, black sexlinks and buff Orpingtons who may start laying in a month or so. I don’t have a chicken problem. Nope.

Lots of eggs this week. Someone laid another monster egg. The Marans eggs are just beautiful!
