Prolapse?!

Hi, I noticed this morning that my 5-year-old Rhode island red hen had a mass hanging out of her vent. I soaked her in water and spayed betadine all over her vent. It was not bleeding but it looked like there was a hole in it that poop was coming out of. We were able to get it back in but then it came back out again when she tried to poop. The mass was much smaller once she pooped and we put more bedadine on it and put it back in. Then I put some whitch hazel on the outside because I read that that helps keep it in. She is know in a wire cage with sheets on the bottom and I put some tetracycline in there for her to drink. Any suggestions on what else I should do? And also what to do if it comes out again? Thanks!

It does sound like a prolapse. Keep her quiet and in a darkened area. If it continues to prolapse you may want to try hemorrhoid cream or honey to help reduce the swelling. The prolapse came out again but only a little bit this time, I put it back in and it seems to be holding up. She has some water but I am wondering I'd I should give her some food or not.
