One of my hens has a prolapsed intestine. I discovered it this morning. After looking through other threads I tried giving her a warm bath, gently pushing it back in, and applying honey. I didn't have any preparation h on hand or I would have done that too. Several times she pushed it back out but I managed to get her to stay calm and put it back in. After allowing her to sit for about 10 minutes without her pushing it back out (she actually fell asleep) I put her back in a kennel. I have her separated in a small kennel with fresh bedding and water. I went to check on her since it had been about 5 minutes since I put her in and it has come out again!!! Is there something else I should try or am I better off just waiting her out? I don't believe she has laid an egg today and I am worried she is still trying to push one out. I have never had to deal with this issue before and so I don't really know what I am doing.

This is not a fun or easy thing to deal with.
It takes a lot of time and patience.
I worked with her for about an hour before she finally sat for 10 minutes without pushing it out. Do I need to sit with her longer so she has a chance to keep it it. It seems as though every time she moves into a new position or sits for too long she pushes it back out again. I am not really having trouble getting it in. I'm having trouble making her keep it in. It's as though she is determined to push it back out every chance she gets.

Get the prep h, apply it inside and out. It's got more tissue shrinking power than anything else I know of. As was mentioned, she needs to be discouraged from too much activity and from laying. I know it sounds mean, but withholding food (not water) for a day, two at most, can help discourage laying as well as pooping much which might help, too.

It is good you separated her as other chickens may peck at it .
Give her food and water and some Yogurt ..and put her in a quiet darker place
She needs to eat ....esp Calcium for it to go back in

I went out and got some preparation-h and it seemed to help a lot with the swelling. I have since put it back in twice. The first time it stayed in for about 10 minutes and she pushed it right back out. The second time I though I had finally gotten it but after about 25 minutes she pushed it out again. I saw some information about making a wrap to help secure it and keep it in place. I don't feel comfortable doing that working on my own so I will have to wait for my husband to come home. In the mean time she is resting in the kennel. It is quiet and completely separated from the other chickens. It is up on the corner of our deck. She has clean water but no food. I would bring her in the house but we have cats and there isn't really any quiet place I can put her that they do not have access to. I am thinking after my husband comes home I will give her another warm bath and more prep-h and try the wrap. Any other suggestions are welcome.

How long should I give her between "sessions." Since it doesn't stay in longer than half an hour or so do I do it every time it comes out or do I wait a few hours to give her breaks in between?
