I noticed a few days back my hens egg was bloody. didn’t notice much at her vent, but today a really bloody egg was laid and Checked to find a really gooey hemorrhoid like vent and a creamy liquid is excreting slowly.
I’ve cleaned it with warm water and applied coconut oil all over her vent. I also added electrolytes to her water.
I’ve brought her in to our home in a crate that is quiet for her to recover. Any more suggestions? @Wyorp Rock

Sorry about your hen. It looks like you have her separated with food and water. Try to keep flies away from her to prevent flystrike. It looks like she is leaking urates which can be common with a prolapse. Honey or sugar syrup made with 50:50 water and sugar can be helpful to pull out water and reduce swelling. Keep the prolapse moist at all times to help prevent tissue death which may appear black and leathery. Try to stop her from laying by keeping her in the dark overnight for 16 hours every day, then letting her out during daylight for 8 hours to eat and drink. This can take several days to achieve.

I would soak her in plastic dishpan with warm Epsom salts and water at least once a day. Keeping the vent clean and moist is best. Try to push the prolapse tissue back in whenever it will stay and hold for a few minutes. Hopefully she will recover from this.

Will do thanks for your feedback

Colette, it looks like @Eggcessive gave you some great suggestions. Keep us posted on her progress.
Thanks will do
I just ordered Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Poultry Care Spray getting it tomorrow. I’ll be sure to keep it moist until then. But tonight I’ll give her an epsom bath.
I did feed her this am crushed tums with egg. She loved it

In that article, she says not to use hemorrhoid ointment because it is no longer considered appropriate. Do you know why that is?
Some types of hemorrhoid cream contain pramoxine—promocaine. Numbing medicines such as lidocaine, benzocaine, or pramocaine which cause constriction of blood vessels to help in controlling bleeding or decreasing swelling, are thought to be toxic to chickens in large amounts. But that said, vets do use some of those -caine drugs during surgery with caution. Just read the labels if you decide to use heemorrhoid creams, and avoid the ones with pramoxine/pramocaine.

Thanks I’m reading to avoid hemorrhoid cream.
