The honey will help to reduce swelling by osmotic pressure, but many have used hemorrhoid cream without problems. It works with medication that constricts blood vessels to reduce swelling. Reducing the amount of feed or the amount of protein can help in stopping laying, but it can take a few days. Also it is good to keep in a dark cage or room for 16 hours every night to stop laying--that should reduce the hours she can eat, so that may be the only thing that is needed to stop laying.

OK thanks, I'll put some on in the morning. I think she could use something to reduce swelling, and maybe that will also help it stay in, too. Hopefully it stays all night! I will also try to reduce the amount of light she is exposed to.

Great news. Yes she probably needs to be with the others now. Keep an eye on her to make sure it has not popped back out, because they will peck her. If she lays an egg, it may come out again.

Still in this morning, but she's having a little bit of trouble going to the bathroom. Should I keep giving her epsom salt baths for a few days?

Hi i am sorry i dont know how to start my own question. New to chickens i have 36 battery hens .They came in a poor state most of them . Getting there now though. One of them i noticed on her own at times and the others were pecking at her...checked her out and found a severe prolapsed vent.Read up on it and have started bathing and using vaseline. She can still poo and there is no egg there. I have debrided what i could (still more to debride) some i guess is dead flesh and some dried on poo. I fear it may have been out over a month am i ok to try to save her.She seems ok eating and drinking.Keeping her indoors ,limiting light and rationed feed.
