I brought one of my 15 month old red star hens in 2 days ago to wash her butt. Once she was in the water I was shocked to see two balls of flesh on either side of her vent, about 2cm diameter.
I was horrified and gently pushed the flesh back in.
I have googled the condition causes and treatment which is very scary but she has been absolutely fine since.
I have closely monitored her and bathed her vent in hibiscrub solution today but she is great and able to poop etc. Verybright, grooming herself and a good appetite, but no eggs for 2 days. She normally lays daily. I dont care about the eggs just as long as this is not potentially a health risk connected with the condition.
Ant advice is much appreciated. The video I saw really scared me as it says it will reoccur and a lot of people advocate culling.
Also does astringent and preparation H work?
I am just really a pet owner. My girls are completely free range and live with my rescue feral rooster. They say seperate from the flock, but I guess this is due to the pink flesh being pecked, which she doesn't have.
I'm worried about Smudge mating her too. Should I leave her with Ivy away from my roo or do the isolation they suggest?
I'm worried she would be more stressed to be away from her tribe.
Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance x
