Prolapsed Vent

I found 2 of my salmon faverolles sisters a couple of weeks ago having prolapses at the same time. They seemed easy to push back in, but would come back out when they were being held to be examined. When I would leave them alone, and they weren't staining, they would stay in on their own. I was in the process of thinning out my flock, so I decided if they didn't stay in, I would cull them, but so far they seem to be doing fine at their new owner's. Most of what I have read about more serious prolapse is to hold the tissue in for 5 minutes or so. If you have a rubber glove on, you could watch a TV program while holding it in, and she might enjoy the show, too.

If only there were a tv at the barn! What seems to not stay in is thin skin or tissue. I'm thinking where the egg was stuck the tissue was damaged. The red area is staying in, & her muscles are working very well. I sprayed it with vetericyn tonight & started her on antibiotics. She seems to want to drink A LOT, so I'm not worried about her not drinking the antibiotics. I know when I'm sick I drink a lot as well ...... hope she pulls thru.

Duramycin was all I could get my hands on. Tonight will be 48 hours that she's been on it, how long should she be on it total? Last night I had to cut away what wouldn't stay inside. The skin had died & needed to go, yet wouldn't easily peel off. She was so good standing the entire time & not trying to walk away ..... much. I sprayed it with Vetericyn again, & pushed back in the very little bit of healthy stuff. After doing that, all was well this morning, she seemed a little perkier than she had been, & more into food than water for a change. I did put some antibiotic ointment on the inside, where there was a little bit of scabbing that I couldn't get off last night. After she's done with her antibiotics, I'm going to move her to the hospital stall with Mook, who is healing well from flystrike. She's getting 1/4 tsp of antibiotics with a little over a cup of water.

I'm giving her about that. Max is 1/5 tsp pr cup of waterer, I'm giving her 1/4 for about 9 ounces of water. I guess I could cut her back! I'll just add more water to her dish. I'll aim for 7 days. I don't want to stop to soon & have something happen............
