We are new to chickens and have purchased 10 rhode island red pullets, that are 10 weeks old about a month ago. They have started laying and life was good until today. One of the chickens seems to have prolaspe. The other chickens were running around with this thing in their beak. We have checked all the chickens and they are all ok, no blood or anything. Our question is " if they prolaspe and the organ, bag, egg sack is no longer there, will the chickens be ok and just not lay any more eggs. We did find a giant egg this morning and figure thats what caused the problem. Thanks to all.

Isolate her and place her in a warm quiet and dark place.. You can use Preparation H to help the prolapse shrink back in... Just put some on your (clean) finger and gently push it back in... The bad thing is, i she's prolapsed because of an egg, there is a good chance it may happen again... Try to get the prolapse to go back in though...

keep her from laying for a while until she is completely healed, you have have to limit the hours she is in light to do this, keep her maining in dim then dark , keep her clean, warm and fed/water. hope she gets bstter
