Red Sex-links from MMH. These little girls start laying early, 16-18 weeks, their eggs get extra large really fast and they lay all the time.

The Black Sex-links are not nearly as good.

It's hard to sell the little pullet eggs when they first start laying, but my reds go from little eggs to giant eggs in just a few weeks. Not the 10+ weeks that most breeds take

Yep, winter hardy for sure.

I saw some brown leghorns on mcmurray's site and they are very pretty. I think they'll get added to my list. I also am interested in the red sexlink and isa brown mentioned above.

I've heard that leghorns are pretty flighty and get upset easily. I've never had any so I can't say for sure, but that's what I've heard

Ok need to bite my tongue on this one...I have just recently started raising chickens (in the last 3-4 months). Most of my banties are babies, or young hens or cockerels. I actually have only one roo that can be used. I bought a very small hen a few weeks ago, who has just started laying. HER EGGS ARE HUGE!!! I feel sorry for this poor little thing, having to squeeze this big ole egg out. It is as big as, if not bigger than, mmy dad's RIR and leghorn's eggs are. But I still think they eat just as much!

I don't think my leghorns are anymore spaztic than my other chickens. They come up to me and talk, they don't mind me taking eggs from under them either. I think they have cute personalities. I truely enjoy them, even my roo is awesome.

You may laugh or call me a liar, but my silkie lays like a champ! She's gone 7 days straight laying!!!

My husband checked today, and she took the day off. He walked into the kitchen and got an apple for her. Said she deserved after working her feather hiney off all week.

Her eggs are delicious and she gave us a HUGE sunday breakfast this week. Can't wait until the rest start laying, hopefully she'll teach 'em how its done!

Well.......my brown leghorn is a cool chic and lays a decent size egg and she's somewhat personable. But I still vote for the red sex link or as I call them....Red Stars or the " Stars " because they laid early and their eggs are huge. Also lay daily. And they are sooooo friendly. Eventually I will have ALL STARS!!!
