i just found out recently that i probably have a rooster, can anyone who owns a rooster (or anyone who knows) tell me what the pros and cons of having a rooster is? thanks!

thanks, i now think i might have another roosterFor the record, I love my roosters to death, I find them often more friendly then the hens, in fact my one rooster would even jump into my lap, and yes, he lives in the barn but he recently passed away. hmm.. like chickenbythesea said, They protect the flock and fertilize the eggs. The only con I have ever seen is that, if you have to many, they can be ruff on the hens. But if you only have 1 and you have at least 6 hens to go with him, it should be fine. Well there's my 2 cents. I love my roosters and support them 100%
thanks! what kind is your rooster?i like my rooster very much! he protects the baby chicks from the hens who pick on them. the only thing is he starts crowing at 4 am. i keep him around because he has a high voice so it is very quiet by the time the sound hits the house.
