Protecting Hens from Japan Fallout!

My daughter lives in Itayanagi, Aomori Prefecture (like a State) about 250 miles north of the power plants and sent me this link to the radiation levels in Aomori City. The blue line is the average normal low, the red line is the average normal high & the orange line is the radiation levels since the tsunami. As you can see the levels there are on the low side of normal.

Radiation Levels in Aomori

I don't know what or where you have been reading but.........
There has been significant increases in cancer, especially thyroid cancer since Chernobyl. Two of my relatives have worked on the Chernobyl disaster. One three years after the meltdown and the other helping with the following health problems. They are not seeing "normal" health concerns due to increased screening procedures. Sorry that is a absurd comment.
The whole crisis is overwhelmingly tragic

It is getting close to the 25th anniversary of the disaster April 26th 1986

This is why people are sick and the land is toxic

These are the effects

This man has taken pictures of the Chernobyl victims,

I think it is safe to say Japan treats its people better than the former Soviet Union did. Not really a good comparison. Still a problem though.

Cancer rates have risen significantly across the world partly due to better screenings and awareness/detection.

The only place I know where they have not seen an increase is in the far north villages where whale blubber and fish are the main diets.

Just as Japan's govt did not tell the entire story at the beginning, just as the truth about Chernobyl can not be found easily, and just as assuredly that "deny everything" and "denigrate those who disagree" is in full swing in the U.S. - - we do not yet have the truth. I trust the govemment, the EPA, to a certain extent, and am not a conspiracy theorist. I just question a lot more than I used to, and I believe to some extent, we are on our own right now. I certainly am not meaning to convince, but only share the little things I have learned. I mean after all, if I were all doom and gloom, I wouldn't be building a coop, getting chicks, and growing my own produce right now. I figure at least I know where mine is coming from.

Oh, I do truly believe that many of the levels are lower in Japan than they are here in California and other areas of the U.S. We are all at the mercy of the jet stream, and sometimes it goes over, around, above, it does what it does. I've been watching some of the geiger counters live in Japan and they are truly low, much lower than the one I watch in the L.A. area.

Thank you for all your information, Buns and Chicks. I am taking notes! And Gymbeau, if I could only believe half of your soothing remarks, but it's just contrary to what I'm thinking. I do appreciate your good will.

Please read ALL of the links, paying attention to the last paragraphs. Note that the rad levels one month later were near 'normal'. Just as some are convinced that vacines cause autism, silicone implants cause auto immune problems, even though the numbers don't bear it out. The first film state the film maker died one month later, the fact is it was over a year later.
Many men die in their 70s.

Living in the culture of fear, and the 24hr bully cable networks, it can be difficult to sift through and sort out the facts.
As Mark Twain said, Lies, darn lies, and statistics. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and these days so are 'facts.'

I think covering things up until forced to admit the truth is more like the agenda we are seeing now, both in Japan and worldwide.

Look at the nuclear adviser, Kosato who resigned yesterday in tears, saying "The government has belittled laws and taken measures only for the present moment, resulting in delays in bringing the situation under control". In Japan this takes an immense amount of strength and conviction to resign a position like this and take this public stand.

We get a similar thing here, and it has become business as usual to tell any news story with "a spin". I don't know who I can believe any more. Of course the U.S. will support Japan, as in this link:
http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201104300101.html And as a public stance, what else could they do, really?

But on a personal side, we all have to decide what our worries are, with radiation fallout, and every other issue. We have to make peace with our decisions, and shouldn't belittle others about it.

I don't see anyone building fallout shelters for their chickens, or quitting the hobby/business - but we do care, and I am staying informed on what is in our produce/water/milk. I don't wear a mask when I go out, and I am outside every day building the coop and run for my new babies. But I also have an emergency shed for my family.

Knowledge is power, and if you can find good data without "the spin" you are a lucky person indeed.

I don't think we are out of danger yet, and so I'm not ready to let this go; yes, I do worry.
