I think covering things up until forced to admit the truth is more like the agenda we are seeing now, both in Japan and worldwide.
Look at the nuclear adviser, Kosato who resigned yesterday in tears, saying "The government has belittled laws and taken measures only for the present moment, resulting in delays in bringing the situation under control". In Japan this takes an immense amount of strength and conviction to resign a position like this and take this public stand.
We get a similar thing here, and it has become business as usual to tell any news story with "a spin". I don't know who I can believe any more. Of course the U.S. will support Japan, as in this link:
http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201104300101.html And as a public stance, what else could they do, really?
But on a personal side, we all have to decide what our worries are, with radiation fallout, and every other issue. We have to make peace with our decisions, and shouldn't belittle others about it.
I don't see anyone building fallout shelters for their chickens, or quitting the hobby/business - but we do care, and I am staying informed on what is in our produce/water/milk. I don't wear a mask when I go out, and I am outside every day building the coop and run for my new babies. But I also have an emergency shed for my family.
Knowledge is power, and if you can find good data without "the spin" you are a lucky person indeed.
I don't think we are out of danger yet, and so I'm not ready to let this go; yes, I do worry.
