There are more people in power whose job is to calm down the masses than who are telling it like it is right now. I do appreciate that your daughter is unafraid, but the consequences of radiation are 10 years down the line, or more, and no one can tell who will be affected.
After today I'm not going to discuss it here any more.
I think there are people who are way into panic-survival mode who are way over the top, and people who don't want to hear it because they do not intend to change their ways anyway. Most are in the middle in a moderate position. I was trying to get the truth, and the current media doesn't operate that way.
What they do is - they raise the bar of what is normal, by saying "there may have been a meltdown..." yada yada yada. Then this gets passed around for a week while accompanying news stories inflate and flame it until we are used to it. (And, the sky hasn't fallen.)
Then each week they are letting out a bit more of the truth, until we calmly take the next level of "normal". And the sky still doesn't fall. And people don't watch where the food and water they eat and drink is coming from.
People who dig for the truth from scientific, not news sources have known all along the things that are now coming out in the media, and some sources have actually been cut off. For example, the website that projects the plumes of radiation born on the jet stream from Japan went off line to the public 2 days ago, with no explanation. Also, at the time that a huge plume of iodine and caesium were expected to blanket the U.S., about 2 days ago, the EPA announced that they were going to cut out all the extra testing they were doing.
But if you read the actual quotes now being stated in Japan, you will see that reactors 2, 3, & 4 are all steaming, which means super heated and still melting down, and they are completely admitting the meltdown and exposed rods in reactor 1, because they now have seen it with their own eyes and cameras.
Reactor 4 is leaning, we can see it. So far every plan to stabilize or bolster a reactor has stopped instantly when they were able to see how precarious it is, and impossible to do.
Remember when they disallowed Greenpeace to test the waters near the reactors? Remember when our websites were finding 160,000 times the normal radiation in those waters, and Greenpeace went ahead and did their testing anyway? Well, NOW Japan is posting these numbers too, as if this is news. And they are "sorry" that another reactor has a leak and has been spewing into the ocean ALL THIS TIME. They regret that this reactor could crumble now...
Anyway, I'm done. I look like a kook, and I'm just a grandma who started getting interested in what looked like a massive cover up 2 months ago. I just spent the last month brooding chicks and gardening and building a coop and run - - I'm not hiding but I am prepared, and probably more than most, since we are also in an earthquake-prone area. And if there is anyone here who I have helped to look a little deeper than the network of "calming, soothing news", then good. I'm going to eat my eggs and my tomatoes and my strawberries, and not worry about it until I have better reason to. But at least I am in tune with the changes as they occur, and not a month later, when the media thinks we can handle it.
Please accept my apologies for intruding into this "off-topic" subject matter. Keep believing that this will be all fixed in 6-9 months...everyone else does too. I just want my baby chicks to get the benefit of this wonderful forum and that's what I want to talk about.
