Wait, wait. Didn't some of us as young children have those "nuclear bomb" drills at school??? Wasn't that where we all got under our desks for protection??

So, if we take our chickens to school and have them practice hiding under the desks, that would work wouldn't it?? (guess we could also get the industrial rolls of foil out of the lunchroom just in case)

Our high school had bomb shelters under the science and math buildings that were eventually closed over. Until they remodeled the schools recently, you could still see the cut outs in the linoleum for the entry doors. Crazy times.


As a plus, the plume was supposed to hit So. Cal. today. I'm sure we'd have heard reports of the sensors going off by now if it were anything serious. I'd be a little more nervous if I lived in the Pacific Islands, but for now, the containment is working fairly well. I feel horrible for those that suffered through the Nagasaki and Hiroshima, only to face this.

We never did the "duck and cover" drills at school (I guess they had realized that wooden desks weren't going to save you by the time I went to elementary school

) but I do remember the "radiation" signs they used to put on buildings that were designated as fallout shelters.

OK, so I"m gonna go out and buy up all the old school desks I can find, have a fall out shelter built, put the desks in that. Then, cover myself and my chickens with zinc oxide and aluminum foil and hide under the desks which are now in the fall out shelter. Will that work??
