Protection from Predators

If a predator really really wants to get into something, they'll get in. Most won't go to that length, they'll find an easier meal. I would not lose sleep over the fear of "what if" if you've done the best you can to fortify your set up.

Chris:

First of all, a 500 fps air pistol isn't going to kill a coon. Maybe not even point blank shot to the forehead. Best varmint weapon for the unskilled in close quarters is a single shot .410 shotgun with some form of buckshot. Aim for a center mass shot to the front shoulder and you should hit something vital, even if it is moving fast. Effective range would be anything inside 50 feet.

1/2 inch plywood is safe enough, but depends on how you did the edges. Hopefully, you covered those with substantial trim boards nailed or screwed into the supports behind them.

You also need to be concerned about any wire edges......that is where they pull things apart.....at the edges and seams. And something to keep them from digging under it all. Perhaps an apron like what this guy is standing on.

Bastards haha, honestly not trying to kill the coons (unless it gets my chickens then ill probably do it with my bare hands) because i know another will take its place, but if i can get the local pack to associate my property with the pain of that gun im fairly confident that they will think twice. And yea i was concerned because people say they can chew through plywood and that obviously concerns me. Thanks for the tips tho, wickedd helpful. Im so glad i found this website, i kinda went into this thing blind haha
