My neighbours have dogs. I have heard ad infinitum how protective dogs are ~ which is true ~ but I want to introduce you to Kirby, my protector cat.
Kirby is a beautiful tuxedo Ragdoll X whom we adopted as a rescue along with his nutty brother, Marlow. Having Ragdoll in them they do the whole *flop & drop* thing. They are timid, gentle & affectionate. What we weren't expecting was *protector cat mode.*
For a while we had a staffy constantly invading our yard. He wasn't a bad dog as such, just allowed to roam & he was fouling our yard & being a pest & we didn't want him round so we had taken to shooing him off, usually having to wave a big stick around so he got the idea. He wasn't super bright.
This particular day Kirby happened to be around when I picked up my stick & started telling the dog to go home. The next thing I knew Kirby had rushed to get between me & the dog. His fur puffed out till he tripled in size. He growled like a bull mastiff. He kept his whole body between me & the dog so I couldn't get close. The dog, sensibly, decided to beat a belated retreat. Kirby forgot he was a ragdoll & became all panther. He chased that dog down till he raked it's haunches & hooked a claw into its back tendon & brought him down.

Effective. That particular dog never came back but my dog loving neighbour saw the whole thing go down with his mouth hanging open! Kirby's not the only cat I've had like this but he's been the most spectacular!
