This one is about eight months old. He’s our third orange cat.
He’s being raised with a golden retriever puppy who’s almost a year old and another golden who’s 12.
He has no idea that he’s a cat.
He plays so rough with the puppy constantly wrestling and chasing each other. they are inseparable.
Here’s a funny thing.
Our son came home for the holidays and brought his dog with him.
His dog is a cattle dog. Totally different body shape, Brindle coloring...
We didn’t think it would be a big deal because he likes cats very much, and the last time he was here (a year ago) we had our other orange cat (who suddenly passed away last spring).
So in the midst of the hellos and hugs, Sam comes sauntering in from another room.
It was as if someone had plugged his tail into an electric outlet.
Starting at his tail and traveling all the way to his face, every single hair on his body stood straight out.
Ive seen tails blow up but never anything like this!
The expression on his face was pure surprise.
Then he shot straight up about human shoulder height and all his legs started going before he even came back down to the floor.
Now I know where all the cartoon illustrators got their inspiration.
We didn’t see him again for the rest of the day- He was hiding in my study.
They DID become friends by the end of the visit, but it took a few days.
Thinking about how huge his little face looked is cracking me up all over again right this minute.
It’s as if he thought ALL animals looked like him and “his dogs” and this new “animal” was just mind blowing to him.
