For the past 5 years my wife and I have traveled all over South America building chicken coops for poor communities. In January we returned to a village in Paraguay and saw that 75 percent of the families still had their chickens. One of the village members asked me a question about raising chickens. I had no idea how to answer him, I had never raised chickens on my own before. When we got home in April I went out and purchased 12 chicks, I have been on this site almost daily and am so addicted to my chickens that i cant believe it took me so long to do this. So here I am a new member of BYC.

what a nice story and glad you've had such success setting up coops for people so they can eat eggs and chicken .

Thank you for your nice comment,
To add to the story about 4 years ago we were visiting with the chief of the village and he said that the children usually didn't have breakfast before going to school. When we returned to the village this year, a grandfather came up to me and told me that very morning he was able to give all six of his grand children 1 egg for breakfast before they went of to school.
