Agreed on Avian viruses; however, salmonella can be passed on to humans.
I do not feed egg shells to my flocks either. Oyster shell is inexpensive and more convenient.

I try to take care not to buy ANY pet treats/supplements that may have come from China! My salmonella concern came about when sparrows started getting in my chicken run and into the coop. I stopped throwing scratch on the ground, then. I try to keep them chased out. Didn't have a problem until that first Polar Vortex dropped into Kansas. We started taking wheat straw into the pen and letting the girls spread it out. We keep building it up and I will clean it out when warmer weather gets here (or if it gets really wet and THAT'S not likely to happen. We are in a dry spell.).
My cat couldn't catch the one in the coop. I had to wait for it to leave, on its own. Hopefully the little bird will remember the big kitty cat who licked his chops and tried to catch him and won't come back. My cat won't go in the pen on his own. The girls intimidate him. He just happened to come over to hang out with me while I was doing some cleaning, so I lifted him into the coop to meet the bird.
