Providing water in the duck pen

I keep out plenty of bucket s and tubs with water in them to me it’s very important they have water continuously while out for the day. That’s why I have heated buckets I use to haul water out 3/4 times a day in winter trying to keep them with thawed water. That got old fast.

That’s the key knowing what works for us and our birds . Mine are obsessed with water in their buckets in their pool in mud puddles and I do believe my Runners would choke to death if they didn’t have water 24/7 they don’t do anything slowed down including eating.
When water is thawed they are in it steady. If frozen they still eat is all I'm saying. Not a big deal. I do what works for my Birds so I'm sure it would work for others too. All I was saying. You all know I love my Birds..Definitely never question that..

Sadly I lost a young Muscovy this way, and have seen other types of poultry come close. FWIW, each time it happens is happens with crumbles, never pellets or grains.
yeah when i got my first ducks and i got to the bottom of the crumbles bag it was dusty or powdery and i think one inhaled the dust and he choked. Lived though

Mine only eat crumble and grains mixed daily..My Calls don't eat pellets.
I'm not saying this will happen if you feed crumbles, just that it can. Probably could happen with any type of feed, but I've only seen it with crumbles.

Keep in mind that in all of the years I've been raising poultry I have only seen one death from choke and maybe 20 that were able to clear the choke by shaking their heads to get the food out.

Definitely if I seen mine having issues my management would be different. Mine are great daily.

I can definitely see how choking could happen with crumbles - it's so dry, I doubt I could choke it down without water either. I think I'm going to look into pellets the next time I have to buy a bag of all-flock.
